How to Brew Earl Grey
A little care makes each cup your own. These recipes are starting points—adjust to your taste and follow your package and brewer instructions when they differ.
One cup
Use: 2.5 g loose tea and 12 fl oz / 355 mL fresh water at 195°F (91°C). Leaf size varies, so a scale is more reliable than a teaspoon.
- Place the tea in a roomy infuser in a heatproof mug or teapot.
- Add the hot water, cover, and steep for 5 minutes, then taste; the existing guide allows up to 10 minutes.
- Remove the infuser or strain completely. Let it cool to a comfortable sipping temperature.
Promise Table tip: For a gentler cup, remove the leaves at the early end of the range. Try a splash of milk after straining to soften the bergamot and malt.
For a stronger cup, use a little more tea next time instead of extending the steep indefinitely.
Brew it. Sip it. Make it yours.
